The control system works with virtually all combi and system boilers. During our free home survey, we check compatibility and flag any issues before you commit. In rare cases where a boiler needs a relay or wiring adjustment, we handle that as part of the installation.
Most installations are completed in a single day – typically 4–6 hours for a 4-bedroom home. There’s no need to drain the heating system. We fit smart TRVs to your existing radiators and connect the hub to your WiFi. Minimal disruption to your day.
Minimal — and genuinely so, not just as a selling point. ZoneWise is a pure retrofit: it works with your existing radiators, existing boiler, and existing wiring. There’s no new pipework, no draining the heating system, no wall chasing, and no floorboards lifted. We swap each existing radiator valve for a smart TRV (around 7–10 minutes each), connect the hub to your boiler using existing connections, and join your WiFi. Your heating is back up and running the same day. Most homeowners are surprised by how little disruption there is compared to any other whole-home energy upgrade — that’s because we’re adding intelligence to what’s already there, not replacing it.
The system uses mesh networking, which means the devices communicate with each other to extend range. For larger properties, we assess signal strength during the survey and include signal repeaters if needed – this is factored into the installation cost.
Remote monitoring is in development and not yet available. The plan: a small monitoring device that securely connects to your control hub, so we can see temperatures across all zones, spot rooms that aren’t reaching target, and adjust schedules for you, with monthly reports on your gas use. We’ll confirm what’s included before you buy.
Absolutely. The app gives you full control from your phone – boost a room, adjust a schedule, or override any zone at any time. The smart TRVs also have manual controls on the radiator itself. The automation works alongside your control, not instead of it.
A smart thermostat on its own (such as a basic Hive or Nest set-up) controls your whole home as a single zone. You can adjust the temperature or set schedules from your phone, but every radiator fires up at the same time to the same temperature. Some of these brands now sell add-on radiator valves too; what ZoneWise adds is designing, installing and tuning a zone for every room. That means you're still heating the spare bedroom, the hallway, and the kitchen at 21°C when you're only sitting in the living room. Smart zoned heating is fundamentally different – every radiator gets its own smart valve with independent temperature and scheduling. Instead of one thermostat making one decision for your whole house, you have 15–22 individual zones each doing exactly what's needed. That's where savings of around 30% come from – not from a smarter thermostat, but from not heating rooms that don't need it.
